This local film won Best Narrative Feature at an international film competition!

Nabubulok

So many of our films are winning awards abroad, and one film is the latest to do so: Sonny Calvento’s Nabubulok was recently cited as the Best Narrative Feature at the 17th Annual Asian Film Festival of Dallas in Dallas, United States of America (USA).

Nabubulok is a crime and investigative film that attempts to piece the disappearance of Luna, with her American husband Jason as the suspect. It was originally screened at last year’s Cinemalaya as a finalist for the main competition. It was later included as an official selection at the Busan International Film Festival.

The film stars Gina Alajar, JC Santos, Jameson Blake, and Billy Ray Gallion.

Interestingly, the dark approach of the film was inspired by the director’s father, Tony Calvento, who hosted the crime and investigative show Calvento Files from 1995 to 1998. In 1997, a film adaptation was released.

The Asian Film Festival is dedicated to “celebrating and supporting emerging and established Asian and Asian-American filmmakers and sharing the rich diversity of Asian culture through the medium of cinema.”

Congratulations to the Nabubulok team!
