Foreign musicians visiting the Philippines usually perform for the largest possible crowd, where fans must get a ticket to see them sing live. But for this one company, they got pop-jazz legend Julia Fordham to perform for their customers in a private concert, days before her public performance at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila. And if that’s not cool enough, their customers got to see her for free!
Insular Life got Fordham to perform her greatest hits for select policyholders on June 20 for Harmonies in Life, and they had a great time listening to her sing classics like “Lock and Key,” “Porcelain,” “Invisible War,” and “Love Moves in Mysterious Ways.” She closed her show with a spirited performance of “Stay,” where she asked the audience to stand and sway with her.
One of the biggest highlights of the night was when Fordham performed “Happy Ever After,” changing the South African chant to “Masaya, tayo’y isang pamilya.“
She gave such an amazing performance that the audience asked her to perform another song. She didn’t disappoint and sang “Hope, Prayer, and Time,” which she said reminded her of Filipinos.
Fordham is a jazz singer known for a variety of soulful hits. She began her singing career in 1988 with her album Julia Fordham, which had the singles “The Comfort of Strangers,” “Happy Ever After,” “Woman of the 80’s,” and “Where Does the Time Go?” She released new albums in quick succession and performed countless gigs and concerts around the world.
