After the hype of the murder documentary series Tiger King, there is now another scripted series about Joe Exotic in the works.
This time, Nicolas Cage plays the role of Joe Exotic.
According to Variety.com, there is an eight-episode series being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. The show will be based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild” by Leif Reigstad.
The series centers on Joe Shreibvogel a.k.a Joe Exotic, a zookeeper in Oklahoma. It is described as, “an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park — even at the risk of losing his sanity.” It will explore how Joe Exotic’s character was born, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.
The show will also be the actor’s first regular television role. He has been previously praised for his film work, as he has also won the Academy Award for best actor in the movie Leaving Las Vegas.
