As an aspiring minimalist, my goal in life is to only have enough. It is easy to live the minimalist lifestyle once you get the hang of it, or feel the benefits of having to worry about less things, but this is hardest when it comes to clothes. I try to control my spendings, but there’s always a new style, a new brand, a new color, and a new print to add to my pared-down wardrobe. To help me control, I strictly limit my wardrobe to black, white, gray, and blue.
I also choose clothes that can be worn practically anywhere. When it comes to footwear, I think I just found my new favorite sneakers.
The Karlstad is a beautiful pair of white sneakers from Anarkyzt, the first homegrown brand to specialize in premium sneakers. A quick look at their website shows that they focus on classic silhouettes inspired by Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian colorways. In fact, apart from a red pair of sneakers, every pair is in black, white, gray, and blue, the only four colors I wear!
The sneakers I chose is made of 100% microfiber, which is proven to be lighter and stronger than leather, while the gray heel tab is made from premium suede. Anarkyzt promises that the rubber outsole is made of 100% rubber for a tight grip in all conditions, but I don’t think I want to ruin the shoes’ immaculate design yet.
How versatile are these sneakers? I put it to the test on various occasions:
I live in the south so a casual get-together means shorts, a shirt, and sneakers. Sneakers are best paired with shorts, and I like how it shows the Karlstad’s gleaming white design and the gray heel tab! And yes, it’s really comfortable.
A Dressy Yet Still Casual Event
Do you have those get-togethers where you’re encouraged to dress casual but you know you have to dress up? I had one of those last week, so I decided to wear the shirt above, paired with a casual jacket and a pair of blue pants. I made the look even more casual by rolling up my pants (also to show off the shoes’ surprising pop of white and the subtle gray heel). Pro-tip: wearing clothes of the same color in different shades makes you look taller.
A Dressier Yet Still Casual Event
I was scheduled to watch Wicked on a Sunday afternoon, so I was wondering what to wear. On one hand, it’s a Sunday afternoon, and on another, it’s the theater. On the third hand, I still wanted to wear my Karlstads to see how versatile they are. I wore the same pants and jacket (washed, of course), and wore it with a white dress shirt. I like how the combination made me look somehow dressed up without looking too formal.
A Night Out
I wanted to see how far I can take white sneakers, so I decided to wear them on a night out with friends. It was a dressy yet casual affair, so I knew I could get away with sneakers. I dressed the same way as above, except I chose a black jacket and black pants. Again, I like how the combo made me look presentable while still looking “street.”
So yes, I was able to prove that white sneakers can be worn on different occasions, from a night out at Aguirre to an afternoon of theater. Of course, Anarkzyst doesn’t just cater to the minimalists, but to everyone who can appreciate a thoughtfully-designed pair of sneakers. To date, the local brand has more than 20 sneakers, and buyers can purchase them online. The best part: free shipping nationwide, and free returns and exchanges!
