Marvel and DC have proven how cinematic universes can rake in the fandoms and the money. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers, while the DC Extended Universe has Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad (and the upcoming Wonder Woman and Justice League). Now, there’s going to be a new cinematic universe featuring classic movie monsters!
The Dark Universe is a Universal initiative, and will kick-off with The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise. This will be followed by The Bride of Frankenstein, starring Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s monster. It will be directed by Beauty and the Beast‘s Bill Condon and will come out in February 2019.
There’s no word about the other films, but Johnny Depp is set to play Invisible Man and Russell Crow will play Dr. Henry Jekyll. In the universe, Dr. Jekyll is a leader of the mysterious organization Prodigium, involved in the creation and destruction of all the monsters.
