Parents need to be extra cautious when it comes to choosing the right food that kids eat and determining your child’s allergies might be too early, but we also cannot put their safety at risk.

Fortunately, a new drug that aims to reduce allergic reactions from exposure to peanuts has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Peanut allergies are common, which is why Palforzia has been made available to children ages 4 to 17 who are diagnosed with it.
According to the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research Director Peter Marks, “peanut allergy affects approximately 1 million children in the U.S. and only 1 out of 5 of these children will outgrow their allergy.” Marks also said that it is due to the fact that there is no cure, so allergic individuals must strictly avoid exposure to prevent severe and potentially life-threatening reactions.
He reassures everyone that “when used in conjunction with peanut avoidance, Palforzia provides an FDA-approved treatment option to help reduce the risk of these allergic reactions in children with peanut allergy.”
The US FDA noted, tho, that Palforzia is not to be used for emergency treatment for any allergic reactions like hives and redness of the skin, digestive discomfort, and potentially fatal responses or anaphylaxis.
