The UP Medical Students’ Society Premiers Its Second Virtual Clinicopathologic Conference This March

The Interscholastic Clinicopathologic Conference (ICPC) is a long-standing flagship project of the UP Medical Students’ Society. Every year, ICPC provides an avenue for medical students to hone their critical thinking skills and display their diagnostic talents through an informative panel discussion and clinical case competition. For the competition, teams from all over the country are given a case from the UP-PGH Department of Pathology. They present their analysis to a panel of judges, as they compete for the coveted title of ICPC champion.

The 49th ICPC is a two-part event that will consist of a morning panel discussion (9:00 – 11:30 AM) and an afternoon premier of the clinical case competition (1:00 – 5:00 PM) on March 19, Saturday.  The event is free and open to the public. It will be streamed via Facebook live on the official ICPC page (Hyperlink: https://www.facebook.com/icpcupmss).

This year’s theme is ‘Second Wind’, a phenomenon in distance running wherein after a period of breathlessness and fatigue, an athlete finds the strength to continue moving forward. It represents a metaphor for constant renewal despite all odds, paralleling our country’s relentless battle with the COVID-19 pandemic. With the drastic changes to medical education, it is easy to lose sight of the diverse and exciting side of academic medicine. For this year’s ICPC, we hope to breathe new life into a long tradition of promoting diagnostic excellence.
