Stephen King is on a roll: his works It, The Mist, Firestarter, Gerald’s Game, Castle Rock (a mash-up of the writer’s work), and Mr. Mercedes are getting their own TV and movie adaptations. One of the most exciting adaptations is The Dark Tower, and the trailer is already out!

Watch The Dark Tower trailer below:

Stephen King’s magnum opus The Dark Tower series follows Roland Deschain, the last living member of a knightly order known as the gunslingers. They live in a feudal society that mixes the Old West with a touch of magic, but it is slowly falling apart due to wars and the mysterious disappearance of cities and regions. Deschain must go to the Dark Tower, described as the nexus of all universes.

The series is composed of eight novels, but the adaptation will be a sequel of the series, while featuring scenes from the novels.

It will star Idris Elba as Deschain, Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers.

Stephen King fans will be pleased to see some easter eggs in the trailer, including a photo of the Overlook Hotel in Chambers’ psychologist’s office. Fans will know that the Overlook Hotel is the setting of The Shining, a King novel adapted by Stanley Kubrick. There’s also a large sign that spells out Pennywise next to a group of balloons, which references the clown in It, another novel that’s about to come out with a film adaptation. Could this be the start of a Stephen King cinematic uuniverse?

The Dark Tower will premiere on August 4, 2017.
