The Sixth “Sharknado” Will Be the Last in the Franchise

Sharknado

One of the strangest film franchises out there is Sharknado. For five films, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid played a couple who experience “sharknadoes,” or tornadoes filled with sharks, wherever they go. It seems to be doing well but its sixth film will be its last!

There’s no word on a title (which will surely be puntastic) and an exact release date, but Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that it will involve time travel and will be released this year.

Its latest offering, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, seems to be the franchise’s most ambitious, as it takes on a more global scale with sharknadoes occuring in the United States of America, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and Egypt. As Ziering said in the trailer, “They’re bigger, stronger, and stranger.”

The first two Sharknado films were received well, but the succeeding films were critiqued poorly.

The creators seem to be aware of how surreal the franchise is, with the fifth film’s trailer mentioning reviews like “gloriously idiotic” by Newsday and “absolutely pointless” by RogerEbert.com.

Now, it looks like the world will be a safer place with the end of these mysterious sharknadoes.
