“The Princess Bride” is Getting a “Reboot” and the Cast Already Looks Amazing

Princess Bride

Fans of the film The Princess Bride, we have great news for you: it’s going to get a reboot. Well, sort of.

Juno director Jason Reitman is leading a DIY reboot of the cult classic, where an A-list set of actors shot their parts at home using their phones. It will be released starting June 29 on the streaming platform Quibi, with chapters being available for streaming every day for two weeks.

The cast? It includes couples Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis. They will be joined by Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi and Zazie Beetz, and even more.

Rob Reiner, who directed the 1987 film, will join as The Grandfather, and original cast member Fred Savage will reprise his role as The Grandson.

The project is DIY, so creative liberties will be taken. Variety reports that a corgi will play the Roden of Unusual Size, and LEGO toys and stuffed animals will be used for crowd scenes.

The Princess Bride started as a novel written by William Goldman in 1973. It tells the story of Westley, a farmhand, who must rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from Prince Humperdinck. In 1987, it was adapted into a film, starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, and Christopher Guest.

The film became a cult classic. In the film’s 30th anniversary in 2017, Elwes shared that fans still come up to him to quote lines from the movie. In 2006, Goldman’s screenplay was ranked the 84th best screenplay of all time by the Writers Guild of America. It got the same ranking in a 2013 update.
