The Primary at UP Town Center: Prime Location For Great Food & Great Drinks With Good Friends + A GIVEAWAY!

When In Manila, new dining hotspots have been cropping up everywhere. Up north, the new UP Town Center is quickly joining the ranks of Maginhawa Street and Capitol Commons when it comes to places with good eats.

The Primary, aptly called as the location is where the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) used to stand, is one such place that has become a must try in the area. Offering a combination of American, Spanish, and Italian comfort food, the restaurant offers a culinary experience that’s a definite treat for your palette. In an area where most dining choices are fast-food chains directed at college kids, this comes as a welcome change.

The restaurant has good ambience– perfect for a nice meal or even drinks with friends!

The Main Dishes:

Beef Shank Osso Bucco (PHP 480): Beef shanks braised in red wine sauce reduction, and served with rice. This dish was a delight, the meat was tender and tasty.

Fennel and Tomato Mixed Seafood Stew (PHP 485): New Zealand mussels, white shrimp, squid rings, and blue marlin, sautéed in fennel and tomato sauce. The rich seafood ingredients make for a perfect stew!

Primary Roast Beef with Mashed Potato (PHP 495): Boneless prime rib served with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, and topped with mushroom gravy. 

Chicken and Ribs Set (PHP 999): Fruit and herb roasted chicken, baby back ribs, your choice of two sides (plain rice, garlic rice, chorizo rice, fries, roasted vegetables, house salad), and carafe of iced tea.  The ribs were seasoned to perfection and the chicken marinade was very unique, with good flavour.

Nutella Cheese Puffs (PHP 180). I am honestly not a dessert person but that cheese puff is enough for me to come back. A definite must try in my book! 

My favourites are the Osso Bucco and the Chicken and Ribs Platter. I also highly recommend the Nutella Cheese Puffs. The Primary also offers lunch specials every weekday from 11 am- 2pm. At PHP 199, you have a meal which includes soup, salad, iced tea, and a choice of chicken and pasta, pork belly and rice or fish and rice.
