‘The Powerpuff Girls’ is Getting a Live-Action Film, And It’s Not Gonna Be For Kids…

Fighting crime, trying to save the day!

Here they come just in time, the Powerpuff Girls!

So, we just learned that The Powerpuff Girls is getting a live-action remake and it’s already in development at The CW Network. But before you could react, you should first know what it’s going to be about because, as it turns out, it’s not gonna be for kids…

Apparently, this version of The Powerpuff Girls imagines them as cynical 20-somethings who are now dealing with their repressed anger from having lost their childhood to constant crime-fighting. And with the world in need of saving once again, they must decide whether to reunite and do what they were created to do.

It’s definitely far from what we expected and from what the original source material is, which is about three young supergirls Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup who loved being of service to their hometown with the awesome powers that they have. The CW, however, has had huge success with darker reboots of beloved franchises that they cater to adults such as Riverdale, which was a spin-off of The Archie Comics.

The project will be handled by writers and executive producers Heather Regnier (“Veronica Mars” revival, “iZombie,” “Sleepy Hollow”) and Diablo Cody (behind critically-acclaimed comedy “Juno,” and cult-classic “Jennifer’s Body”).
