Starting a Blog or Vlog? Here’s the one gadget you’ll ever need – the Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Oftentimes, I’d encounter inquiries from aspiring bloggers asking me about the must-have gadgets to create high definition photos and videos for their content… and usually, I’d recommend a bunch of stuff like a dslr or mirrorless camera, extra lenses like 35mm or 50mm for portraits, 11mm or 16mm for landscapes, a macro lens for food etc etc. Aside from lenses, you should also have a tripod, monopod, external flash and extra batteries and even a durable camera bag too. Oh, and don’t forget to also buy an action cam for selfies and underwater shots. Nowadays,  even having a drone is also an advantage.

I have experienced having all these over the years and I still have them all at home. Spent thousands investing in expensive lenses, camera bags, accessories and other cameras to enable me to add variety to my content… I enjoyed bringing all of them during trips even if they were too heavy because, during that time, I had no choice.  It was not until Huawei finally partnered with Leica, that I slowly transitioned from buying more to just using one. Now with the release of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, I believe I have found that one perfect gadget (for now) to replace all my old bulky gear.

With respects to hardcore photography professionals and enthusiasts, full frame cameras and traditional lenses are still ideal to capture professional photos ( I still use them during professional shoots), but if your aim is to create equally impressive quick content for social media (something that doesn’t require hours and hours of editing), the Huawei Mate 20 Pro can be a good alternative.

Here are the types of content that you can create with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (ALL Photos are NOT edited):

  1. Ultra Wide Panoramic shots.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a wide focal range of 16mm-270mm making it ideal for travel photography. If you love to travel and take panoramic photos, then you won’t need to invest in expensive gear and lenses anymore if you have the Mate 20 Pro. Aside from ultra-wide shots, it can also has a zoom telephoto feature. Cool ey?

2. Up-close Macro photography.

Travel and food blogging go hand in hand and for awesome food photography, you need a camera and lens that can take close-up shots to make dishes look more appetizing. Over the years, I’ve invested at least 3 lenses to improve my macro shots. They were really nice to use, but are heavy to carry. With the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, there’s no more need for me to carry heavy lenses since it also features a Super Macro Mode.

3. Underwater shots

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro now has an underwater mode (up to 5m) so you can shoot and record videos while underwater. No more need for an additional action camera right? All you have to do is get the waterproof case to use this feature. This also means you have one less camera to bring and charge. Saves you time, effort and money.

4. Create Studio-like selfies

Every adventure calls for at least a decent selfie and with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, you’re assured of having stunning, studio-like self-portraits even on challenging low-light scenarios. It also features Personalized Bokeh effect to make your photos look cuter. Here are samples:

5.  Create High Definition Videos on YouTube

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a 2019 Youtube Signature Device making it an ideal device for vloggers and youtubers. It has the ability to take 360 videos, has high dynamic range and can already render videos in 4k. So if you plan to start your own YouTube channel, there’s no more need for you to buy a big camera, a shotgun mic mounted on a Joby stand if you use the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Aside from its ability to capture all these, you also won’t need to worry about running out of battery. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a capacity of 4200mAh and comes with a 40Watt super fast charger so you will never miss immortalizing precious moments. It also carries the latest and most advanced AI Kirin 980 chipset and EMUI 9.0 operating system to support you with super fast performance and enhanced user experience.

It is durable? Yes, you can definitely take it with you during your adventures since it’s water and dust resistant (IP 68).

As for the price here in the Philippines, we have yet to wait for Huawei’s official announcement on that, but my wild guess would be around 45k to 60k. Personally, I think that even if they sell it here at 60k, it’ll still be worth it because if you buy separate cameras (mirrorless + wide lens+ macro lens+ tripod+ flash+ action cam) for every content you wish to make, you’ll end up spending hundreds of thousands in total like what I did before. With one powerful device like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, you’ll be able to create all the high definition content you want in just a fraction the cost.
