The Mactan Cebu International Airport Just Won a Major International Award!

Mactan Cebu International

If you think Terminal 2 of the Mactan Cebu International Airport is awesome, it’s not just you. The terminal just won an award at the 2019 World Architecture Festival, where it was recognized in the Completed Buildings: Transport Category.

The airport beat popular airport terminals such as Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport and Turkey’s Istanbul Airport.

One judge said, “This is a simple and elegant new airport that uses many locally sourced materials. It is integrated into the local area through the development of a local hub and a landscape plan. The internal spaces are light and uncluttered and the design is capable of future extension. It is clearly popular with the local community and this established memorable travel experiences.”

According to the airport’s Facebook page, “the architecture of Terminal 2 was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates (IDA) Hong Kong and its Principal Architect, Winston Shu, in collaboration with world-class Filipino designers.”

The World Architecture Festival is the world’s largest, live, inclusive and interactive global architectural awards program and festival.
