The Kingmaker

Those who missed the limited screening of The Kingmaker can now catch the documentary on iWant, where it is available for free streaming.

It was supposed to be made available on May 15, but director Lauren Greenfield shared that ABS-CBN postponed the premiere.

The Kingmaker follows the political career of Imelda Marcos and her family’s effort to return to politics. It premiered at the 76th Venice Film Festival in August 2019, followed by a limited screening at the University of the Philippines Film Institute and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The documentary enjoyed several nominations at the London Film Festival, the Stockholm Film Festival, the Bergen International Film Festival, the Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards, and the Warsaw International Film Festival 2019.

The Kingmaker has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the review, “The Kingmaker aims a disquieting spotlight at the private life of a divisive public figure — as well as the ways in which unchecked power seduces and corrupts.”
