Dirty Dancing is Getting a Remake and Here are the First Photos!

The TV remake of the 1987 dance drama film Dirty Dancing is coming up in less than a month, and we can’t wait to see it! To tide us over until the musical extravaganza, ABC released the first teaser trailer and it looks like we’re going to have the time of our life.

Watch the first trailer of the Dirty Dancing remake below:

Dirty Dancing is a 1987 dance drama film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, where a teenager and a resort hotel’s dance instructor fall in love. It was a surprise hit, with Rotten Tomatoes noting its “impressive choreography and the power of song to surmount a series of formidable obstacles.” It also launched the popularity of the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”

News of a remake has been floating since 2011, when Lionsgate announced it would remake it. The original film’s choreographer, Kenny Ortega, is set to direct. The roles that Swayze and Grey portrayed were given to Colt Prattes and Abigail Breslin. They will be joined by Nicole Scherzinger, Bruce Greenwood, Debra Messing, Sarah Hyland, Tony Roberts, Shane Harper, Billy Dee Williams, Beau Casper Smart, and Katey Sagal.

While the story will remain the same, Messing said that there will be new song numbers. She said, “This isn’t a replica of the original. This takes some liberties. It has the DNA of the original, but you are going to find out what happened to Baby and Johnny after that summer ended. So there’s some additional surprises in there that are new.”

Dirty Dancing will premiere on May 24 on ABC.
