The First “Game of Thrones” Spinoff Has Been Announced!

Game of Thrones Jon Snow

HBO’s Game of Thrones is ongoing, which means that the eighth and final season will be out soon. If you’re a fan who’s wondering where to go once the inevitable series finale airs, fret not: HBO is developing four spinoffs to the highly-acclaimed series, and the first one has been announced!

HBO has recently announced that its first spinoff will be a prequel and will be set in an era called “The Age of Heroes”—a dark time in Westerosi history 10,000 years ago.

Fans may have to wait, since the prequel will be released in 2020.

According to HBO chief Casey Bloys, “The number one priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones. I don’t want to do anything with a spin-off or anything that detracts or distracts from that. That season will happen and my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don’t want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after that. It’s best to separate it and that’s what we’ll do.”

Game of Thrones is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series of novels and follows different dynasties as they aim to succeed the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.
