“The Fairly Oddparents” was Canceled 5 Times. Here’s Why it Kept Coming Back

Fairly Oddparents

Here’s something we didn’t know about the Nickelodeon show The Fairly Oddparents: during its run from 2001 to 2017, the show was canceled five times.

Creator Butch Hartman explains in this cute little video below:

In the video, Hartman said, “So the show’s canceled, and I’m thinking, ‘Well, that’s really too bad. Why?’ And they say, ‘Well, we’re canceling your show because there’s no sponge in it.’ I said, ‘I could put a sponge in it, but there’s already a show with a sponge and a starfish. I can make my show about a sponge and a catfish,’ and they’re like, ‘No, no, that’s dumb.'”

That cycle repeated throughout the show’s run but according to Hartman, the show survived because the executives thought they acted too hastily. He added that the show kept coming back because of good ratings. In the caption of the video, Hartman said, “Why did it keep coming back? Because of YOU!! The fairly odd fans are amazing!!”
