The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel – Not Your Average Slice of Cake

When in Manila and you want to have more than your regular slice of cake, The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel tenders not only cakes and pastries, but also savory dishes that you can have for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

I have been to The Cake Club once before when they just opened as I was very much interested to try their famed designer diminutive cakes. But now, I came back to try their new sweet treats and more. Let me tell you about this delectable journey that I had one Tuesday evening, dining with good food and meeting new friends.

The Cake Club is lovely dining spot located at the Central Plaza of Bonifacio High Street. It is almost above Mango Tree Bistro, a place where the WhenInManila team participated for the Project Headshot Clinic for UNITE 2012 headed by highly-acclaimed photographer Niccolo Cosme.

The Cake Club is one of the few restaurants in this side of the city that offers a smorgasbord of great desserts aside from its slew of scrumptious savory dishes. On that Tuesday evening, we began dinner with a basketful of Truffle Fries. As the fries are brought out of the kitchen, the scent of truffle fills the air, which makes you want to grab a piece even before the basket reaches the table. The fries are crunchy on the outside yet still soft and moist on the inside. Truly flavorful, you would not even want the salt seasoned on them go to waste.

To prepare for this gastronomic experience, we were given soup, specifically Creamy Mushroom Soup with Herbed Croutons. This hearty bowl is great follow up after gobbling down several pieces of truffle fries.

You may not believe it but The Cake Club, though the namesake pertains to that sweet pastry, has good Chicken Parmigiana. The large fillet of chicken is seasoned and cooked well, and the cheese makes it perfect. It is tender, juicy, and tasty.

The Clubhouse Sandwich may be a staple to many but what makes The Cake Club’s very own unique is its content. It leans towards a healthier option since it skips the bacon and ham, and only puts lettuce, tomato, mayo, chicken and egg in between the bread. It is served with regular fries.

The Cake Club also have pasta and we were able to try the Classic Beef Lasagne, which is made with homemade fresh pasta. Cheesy and beefy, this is it.

A unique brunch item we had at The Cake Club is what they call the Pinoy Eggs Benedict. I am a big fan of brunch food and a super big fan of Eggs Ben so this one is right up my alley. What makes it Pinoy is that instead of using ham or bacon, it contains tapa. It is topped off with two very runny poached eggs and drips with cheese. Yeah? Yeah.
