The ‘BROAD’ side of the New Media: BROADCON 2021

by Christelle Dazon & Jason Kyle Julian

To all broadcasting, communication, journalism, media and film students, enthusiasts of the media industry, and to you who reads this article via a digital media, the Broadcasting Convention is back for a reboot, and you might want to check it out and be a broadkada

BROADCON PRE EVENT POSTER

With the theme “Look at the BROAD side! Huddling the Variance of New Media,” BroadCon 2021 envisions camaraderie among broadcast communication majors and other kabroadkadas from different institutions geared for a driven enthusiasm towards the practice in the media industry.

An untangled meaning behind this year’s theme, Studio Manager, Patrick Dale Alog, shared that they had a lot of brainstorming and nights playing with words correlating it to them as broadcasting students, ending up unraveling the best theme that suits this year!

The title itself wanted to be visionary. It conformed with two various meanings from meddling with the nose of the Broadcasting field to professing that there is a “broad” side of the new media.” Patrick said.

Initiated by the premier broadcasting organization of Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila, Studio 1620, together with the Colegio’s Quadricentennial Celebration, this week-long webinar series will revolve in three topic categories and each will be tackled per day. 1.) The Authenticity of Content: The Digital Broadcast Media Production; 2.) Creative Process: Storytelling in Mobile Filmmaking, and; 3.) The Digital Media: A discourse on Citizen Journalism

In partnership with Rec•Create Studios, the masters behind the segments Let’s Be Honest, Unfiltered, Chef Rod Reviews, Opposites, and a lot more of their authentic contents—Mr. Bob Guarina, Ms. Allison Barretto, and Mr. Colin Aboy, will chit-chat with you their tips and personal experiences in digital broadcast media production!

Also partnering with Kase Lens PH, the founder of Mobile Filmmaking Philippines—Mr. Mark Tristan Cua, will be teaching you the basics (and the hardships!) of mobile filmmaking and how vital storytelling is.

And with the active role of social media in the country, ABS-CBN News Reporter—Mr. Jervis Manahan, GMA News and Public Affairs Senior Correspondent—Mr. JP Soriano, together with stoked guest reporters and students, will be having an open round table discussion tackling the essence of the digital media; a discourse on Citizen Journalism.
