From a lovable socially awkward scientist to a killer — this dramatic transformation awaits “The Big Bang Theory” star Kunal Nayyar in his new role for Netflix’s series, “Criminal”.
Nayyar first became famous for his role as astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali in “The Big Bang Theory”, but will now make a comeback as Sandeep Singh, a cold and calculating killer. Nayyar has spoken about his new role, where he said that “it was important to do something that completely breaks the barrier.”

Wanting to ensure that his next role after “The Big Bang Theory” was completely different from his character Raj, Nayyar added that he “wanted to make sure that whatever I did next was like, ‘Wait, who is this? Oh My God. Is that the guy from The Big Bang?!’, as opposed to ‘Oh there’s Raj, playing a killer’.”
“Criminal” is set almost entirely in an interrogation room and will star “Game of Thrones” actor Kit Harrington, Sophie Okonedo, and Sharon Horgan. Each episode in this four-part series will focus on a different suspect. Here, Nayaar plays a hardened criminal who plays mind games on the detectives in order to get an early release.
The series has been released on Netflix since September 16.
