The Best of Italian & Filipino Films at the 2nd MovieMov Festival

If you’re in Manila on the 5th to 9th of December, you may want to watch the best of Italian, and some Filipino, Films at the 2nd MovieMov Festival: Italian Cinema Now at Greenbelt 3!

The second edition of MovieMov in Manila  will feature seven Italian films released in 2012.  These are:  Cesare deve morire (Caesar must die) by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, L’intervallo (The Interval) by Leonardo di Costanzo, Posti in piedi in paradiso (A flat for three) by Carlo Verdone, Magnifica presenza (Magnificent presence) by Ferzan Ozpetek, L’industriale (The Entrepreneur) by Guilio Montaldo, Diaz (Diaz-Don’t clean up this blood) by Daniele Vicari, and Romanzo di una strage (Piazza Fontana—The Italian Conspiracy) by Marco Tullio Giordana.  Moviemov in Manila is also a competition of contemporary Italian movies judged by the audience.

The MovieMov in Manila will also pay homage to spaghetti Western film director Sergio Leone, Retrospective – Homage to Sergio Leone. Where films like The Colossus of Rhodes, A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistful of Dynamite, and Once Upon a Time in America will be screened. Leone’s films were noted as the Spaghetti Western genre, where films such as A Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly helped launch the career of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood.

This movie festival will be a venue for  workshops and round-table discussions among Italian and Filipino filmmakers and producers in order to have an international exchange of ideas and concepts in film-making, as well as discuss future collaborations and lasting partnerships. Filipino films such as Chito Roño’s Dekada 70, Olivia Lamasan’s The Mistress and Manuel Conde’s Genghis Khan will be featured as well.

 

This year’s MovieMov also has an educational component. There will be a special screening for the high school and university students at 10:00 am, from Wednesday to Saturday. The Embassy of Italy and Playtown will provide free transportation for the students. After watching the movie, the students will have the possibility to interact with the Italian and Filipino celebrities.

 

A special invitational program will launch the 2nd Edition of MovieMov on December 4 to be highlighted by the red carpet walk for the Italian and Filipino film stars  and cocktails that will provide a sampling of Italian food and wines.
