Who remembers reading the adventures of baby-sitters Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn? Well, we’ve got great news! Ann M. Martin’s well-loved books The Baby-sitters Club will be getting its very own series on Netflix.

Although it sounds nostalgic, the stories of Kristy and her friends will be introduced to a new generation. Yes, despite the corded phone shown on the promotional poster, Netflix confirms that the story is set in the modern era. So, while this 10-episode series promises to retain the themes that fans know and love about The Baby-Sitters Club, it will also tackle modern-day issues in the 21st century. It will also focus on empowering young female entrepreneurs— as this is the very theme of the books.

The upcoming Netflix series will star Sophie Grace as Kristy Thomas, Malia Baker as Mary Anne Spier, Momona Tamada as Claudia Kishi, Shay Rudolph as Stacey McGill, and Xochitl Gomez as Dawn Schafer. Alicia Silverstone, who is known for her role in ‘Clueless’, will be playing Kristy’s mother, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer.

Ann M. Martin will also be a producer on the Netflix show, citing in an NBC interview that she is “amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years.”

She adds that she is also “honored to continue to hear from readers— now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers— who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends.”
