sties-poster

University of the Philippines Los Baños Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO) in cooperation with UPLB Industrial Engineering Department will be conducting the 8th Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar (STIES) with a theme “PIONEER: Leading the Future with Lean Six Sigma” at D.L. Umali Auditorium UPLB.

Lean Six Sigma emphasizes on the collaborative effort to improve performance through eliminating unnecessary and wasteful steps thereby resulting to a more efficient and effective system. Efficiency and effectiveness were originally industrial engineering concepts in assessing performance and is relevant due to the timely issue of increasing scarcity among resources.

STIES is offered to Industrial Engineering students all over the CALABARZON region and this year’s participating schools are the following:

  • Colegio de San Juan de Letran
  • Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna
  • Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sto. Tomas
  • Lyceum of the Philippines – Batangas
  • Pamantasan ng Cabuyao
  • Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Rosa
  • De La Salle – Lipa
  • University of Perpetual Help System Laguna
  • Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation
  • Lyceum of the Philippines Cavite
  • University of Batangas – Lipa

STIES through the years

STIES is a one-day annual event that aims to continuously provide conducive learning discussions between the speakers and the participants through forums along with a friendly competitive environment among participants through pageant. UPLB IESO has been presenting STIES every year with a specific theme that promotes the chosen principle. Lectures and actual experiences of selected speakers are shared that attest to be useful not only in classroom discussions but also in the field. For seven years, over 20 universities have participated in this event and is continuously increasing yearly. UPLB IESO then conducted two STIES last year to accommodate all interested participants

The UPLB IESO

The University of the Philippines Los Baños Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO), established on the 26thof November 2001, is the sole academic organization officially endorsed by the Industrial Engineering Department of the UPLB College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology exclusive for Industrial Engineering students.

It envisions itself to promulgate the concerns and endeavors of Industrial Engineering in the university, the community, and the society; to promote leadership skills and potentials; to reach breakthroughs through the knowledge acquired from the field and to unite all UPLB IE students to the pursuance of academic excellence and professionalism into one body.

UPLB IESO is also an active member of the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers both in CALABARZON and National Students Chapter, and furthermore aims to establish ties with other organizations inside and outside the university.
