The 1975 Raised Awareness on Climate Change During Their Manila Concert

English pop rock band The 1975 held their massive concert at the Mall of Asia Arena last September 11. Aside from displaying aesthetic visuals and playing classic tracks from their previous and latest albums, the band also managed to spread awareness on climate change and the ecological crisis by playing the new “The 1975” intro with a short clip in the middle of their set.

In that track, the 16-year old climate change activist Greta Thunberg delivered her rallying speech, encouraging everyone to act and make possible changes. The 1975 changed their traditional intro for their upcoming album, Notes On A Conditional Form, as they collaborated with Greta Thunberg to support her advocacy.

“We are right now in the beginning of a climate and ecological crisis. And we need to call it what it is: an emergency”, the arena filled with cheers and applause when these lines during “The 1975” intro started playing. The track ended with “So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel,” while Matty Healy raised his hand which made the Filipino fans proud. We truly stan The 1975 for using their platform, influence, and music in addressing social issues and informing people about it.
