TGI Friday’s Shake, Rattle and Pour’s 17th Annual Bartending Championship

When in Manila, TGI Friday’s does it again—with its loud, ringing bell that signals the start of another bartending championship otherwise known as the Shake, Rattle and Pour, where it celebrated its 17th anniversary last Tuesday, September 25, at the TGI Friday’s branch in Bonifacio High Street.

Thirteen participants battled it out, impressing the audience with all the spins and cool tricks they had up their sleeves. In the end, it was Rev “the Revolution” from TGI Friday’s Rembrandt who took home the coveted title of TGI Friday’s champion bartender.

The event began with an introduction of the contenders, followed by an Exacto-Pour competition where the participants were required to mix drinks and concoctions that had to be in the exact amount of ounces proclaimed. The participant with the highest level of accuracy, of course, would win—and it was none other than Bonifacio High Street’s very own Joel “El Presidente.” Talk about homecourt advantage! In a Flairtending Show I watched by TGI Friday’s a few months ago, I witnessed the talent of El Presidente himself and I must say that I’m a fan!

In between contenders, I was able to enjoy plates of Friday’s Ballpark Nachos—mounded tortilla chips covered with cheese sauce, picadillo meat, pico de gallo and salsa, Buffalo Wings—traditional upstate New York-style chicken wings marinated in spicy sauce, then deep fried and served with celery sticks and Bleu cheese dressing, and Chicken Fingers—hand-battered chicken tenders, golden fried and served with Friday’s Fries and your choice of either barbecue sauce or honey mustard dressing.
