Text Message about “Aswangs in a Truck” Hoax Creates Panic
ANC posted a report about a certain text message going around that contains a warning telling people about “aswangs“. To us Filipinos, an aswang is a ghoulish entity that appears to be a combination of a vampire and a werewolf.
The said text message was reportedly from the Tanauan City Police Station in Batangas. However, the text message is now said to be just a hoax. According to Police Inspector Dante Madajas of the Tanauan City Police Station, there was no basis for the said text message and it didn’t come from their office.
Below is a screen capture of the said text message taken from TV Patrol Southern Tagalog Facebook page.
The text message read:
WARNING: Sa lahat po ng taga-Batangas, ‘wag po kayong pagala-gala sa gabi. Nasa Sto. Tomas na po ang isang grupo ng aswang na nakasakay sa malaking truck galing sa CAPIS CAM SUR. Huwag magtiwala sa hindi n’yo kilala. Hindi ito isang kalokohan.

Rough translation:
WARNING: To everyone in Batangas, don’t loiter around at night. A group of aswang riding a big truck from CAPIS CAM SUR is already in Sto. Tomas. Don’t trust anyone you don’t know. This is not a joke.
