More tennis action will unfold this coming weekend as the Philippines host Kuwait in the first round of the 2016 Davis Cup to be held at at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City.

Last year, the Philippine took a diving 1-3 loss against Chinese Taipei in the semifinals of the 2015 Davis cup. Hopefully, this year would fair better for the Philippine tennis team.
Philippines currently rank 53 out of 133 in the Davis cup rankings and remains in the Asia/Oceania Group 2; hoping for a stellar game this weekend, the Philippine team is eyeing to be promoted to Asia/ Oceania group 1.
According to reports, this year’s team could possibly be the strongest team formed in recent years: Treat Huey — who just bagged his 7th doubles title in Mexico — will be seeing action in the Davis cup, along with World Juniors no. 9 Jeson Patrombon, Ruben Gonzales, and Francis Casey Alcantara.
Philippines became Eastern Zone champion in 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1964, but lost in the Inter Zonal semifinals on all four occasions. Philippines reached the World Group play-offs in 1991, although has never appeared in the competition’s top tier.
First match is this Friday, March 4.
