Teatro Tomasino opens its 41st season with a three-play production, “Singhap”

On its 41st season, Teatro Tomasino, the only university-wide theater guild of the University of Santo Tomas, presents its first production titled “Singhap,” which conveys the gasp of air. Singhap features three one-act plays titled, “Kublihan,” “Esprit de Corps,” and “A.Y.L.I.” that shows the different struggles of seeking individuality and equality in a society that encloses us in its own beliefs.

Kublihan, written by Jerome Ignacio and directed by Eudes Garcia, is a story of friends Mike and Julio who meet each other again for the first time in a long time in their old haunt, and they try to make sense of their past and figure out the future. Espirit de Corp by Aureus Solito and directed by Ingrid VIllamarin shows Private “Abel” Sarmiento, an aspirant of the position S3 of his school’s CAT. Trouble comes when his interview with the irascible Favila– the current S3, goes terribly wrong. A.Y.L.I. by CheskaMarfori and directed by Iris Montesclaros revolves around longtime friends, Isay and Bea who decides to meet and catch-up, as Isay sets up Bea on a blind date. Things go awry, and the two end up talking about their past and begin to discover and examine details about their friendship.

Teatro Tomasino is known for producing stage plays that touch topics of relevant and timely social issues.

Through Singhap, Teatro Tomasino aims to inspire everyone to accept themselves and others for whoever they are; and to stop confining to satisfy other people’s opinions with the season’s theme, “Akin Ako.” Singhap will show on September 26-29 with the timeslots 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. for the price of Php. 50.00.
