Tucked somewhere in the laid-back neighborhood of Marikina City and away from the prominent food strip along Lilac St, we found an unassuming resto/bar that serves flavorful ribs and wings.
El Heneral Ribs & Wings Co. is a newly opened resto/bar that offers reasonably priced ribs and wings, which also hit the right spots. Actually, it feels that they are still on soft opening but you can already have a go at their ribs and wings.
The resto/bar is the brainchild of five friends whose parents served the military. Hence, the name “El Heneral”.
Actually, they even revealed that it started as “usapang lasing” – to open up a resto and/or bar with food (and beer) that they enjoy. And then, the “usapang lasing” turned into reality.
El Heneral is located in Mancora Bldg, which is a stone throw away from Blue Wave – Marikina, which is along Gil Fernando Ave.
The resto/bar is located on the ground floor, at the corner of the building. The place is pretty simple and straightforward, perfect for a place you’d just want to get your hands messy with ribs and wings.
The wings come in four flavors – Alpha (soy glazed), Bravo (garlic lime parmesan), Charlie (hot), and Delta (hickory barbeque). They are amusingly named from the phonetic alphabet or aka as “police or military alphabet”. If you’re familiar with the military alphabet, you have used or have heard these terms.
The wings are nicely paired with dips. Alpha comes with honey mustard dip and so does Delta. Bravo is served with garlic aioli dip while Charlie, the original buffalo wing, comes with blue cheese dip.
Ribs at El Heneral as served for the Pinoy market – with rice. There are two options, the Heneral Baked and Barbecue Ribs and the Colonel Honey Glazed Ribs.
The ribs are juicy and tender, and they are smothered with tangy sauce that you’ll want to lick your fingers afterwards.
El Dinamita
Some extras you can order include mashed potato, coleslaw, steamed rice, and El Dinamita. We tried the El Dinamita and it was not as hot as I expected it to be. It could be hotter.
Pesto Pasta
Being a fan of ribs and wings, El Heneral is a nice place to get both without breaking the bank. The ribs and wings are tasty, and I wish I ordered more. Also, I wish Charlie was a little more fiery. The ribs are cooked well though.
If you’re in the area or looking for a rib/wing place to hangout, I definitely recommend El Heneral.
