Taylor Swift Sends Christmas Gifts to Fans, Delivers One Herself
Taylor Swift has endeared herself to millions of fans (Filipinos included) for her touching songs and her colorful personal life. Say what you will about Taylor’s love life, but she has become an inspiration to teen girls everywhere. If you’re not aware, she has a habit of leaving lengthy replies on Instagram posts tagging her and asking for her advice. Then of course, she knows how to make fun of herself, especially during “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space,” two songs that mock her romances in 1989, which became the top-selling album of 2014.
This Christmas, Tay ended 2014 with a bang by sending personalized gifts to her most loyal fans. In a move called “Tay-lurking,” Tay studied her fans’ likes, jobs, and location in order to get the best gift for them. She would also leave a Santa emoji on their social media pages. Then all of a sudden, large boxes filled with gifts arrived at their doorstep. The result? A very happy “Swiftmas” (it’s a thing, we swear).
Taylor recorded herself wrapping the presents, and asked her fans to record themselves opening it. What happens is a very heartwarming Christmas for her fans. In one scene, Taylor wants to send a Hannukah gift right away before the end of the eight-day Jewish holiday. In another, a fan holds up a very long Christmas letter asking to see her. In the most touching scene, she wanted to meet her fan’s one year old son, so she drove all the way to Connecticut to deliver their gifts. She also spent time playing with the child.
It’s easy to judge this move as PR, but Taylor does this thing regularly. Back in September, she invited 35 fans to her home for a private 1989 listening party, one month before its release.
