Tawid Exhibit: Design Beyond Borders (A Product-line Exhibit of Furniture and Accessories)

Poster for WheninManila (Revised)

The BS Interior Design program of the University of the Philippines Diliman has a long history of creating service and advocacy-integrated interiors for a chosen foundation. Each year, the graduating class undertakes a renovation project for the benefit of an advocacy-driven foundation to serve as their special batch project. This project is meant to give students a taste of the design profession while staying rooted in the UP values of honor, excellence, and service for the greater good.

This year, however, the UP Interior Design Class of 2017 has decided to do something different. Tawid: Design Beyond Borders is a construction project that aspires to incorporate advocacy and design from an interdisciplinary approach. Under the supervision of Dr. Raquel B. Florendo, this daring group of thirty individuals has chosen to create a product line of multi-use furniture and accessories, all for the benefit of Tulay ng Kabataan, an NGO that provides shelter and bridge programs for the street children of Manila.

The class aims to create child-friendly, colorful, and interactive pieces that fulfill these different needs of the children while incorporating healing design and collaborative design. We believe these pieces show how design can truly impact on a person’s life and its role in raising awareness. The class also believes that you can, in even the simplest ways, have a major impact on the children of Tulay ng Kabataan. In order to provide the children with only the best quality of products, sufficient funds are needed to bring the pieces to fruition. The class would like to ask for your help in giving any amount that you wish to give. We ensure that this will go to the production and manufacturing of all the pieces, which shall be given to the foundation at the end of the project.

Another way you can help the class fulfill their goal is by showing your support on social media–by checking out our Facebook page, liking and sharing posts –and simply telling others about the project. The UP Interior Design Class of 2017 greatly appreciates your generosity and your heart to serve the children of Tulay ng Kabataan.

The pieces will be exhibited on March 5 to 12, 2016 at the UP Town Center, Quezon City, where everyone is invited to view the pieces and learn more about the project.
