Tanay Rest House: An Escape Into Erap’s Life and History

We soon found out that the former president had a lot of animals. A flock of ducks swam happily in one pond; a couple of horses grazed and slept lazily inside a fenced ranch; and an angry ostrich even tried to take a peck at me as I tried to take its picture. The place also housed an assortment of fishes, deer, and pigs. Always one to enjoy simply watching animals, I liked this aspect of Erap’s Tanay rest house very much.

Another interesting stop was an old-fashioned saloon that serves as a tribute to Erap’s close friendship with the late Fernando Poe, Jr. Stepping through the batwing doors was like stepping back into the time of action movies; everything spoke of an era when FPJ and Erap were still punching out bad guys, and it was a good reminder that before being politicians (or aspiring in FPJ’s case) the pair of them were already successful in their own field.

Bottles of liquor filled the counter top and the heads of dead animals decorated the walls. If that isn’t macho enough for you, there are also the many portraits of Erap and FPJ showing their action star poses. Here’s an interesting idea: if Erap and FPJ were to duke it out in a battle for best Filipino action star, who would win?
