Young and rising YouTube stars in Indonesia might just get an easy ticket into a university after it announced a special admission program made just for them.
The National Development University Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) revealed that it will now accept interested students with an existing YouTube channel to enroll in their university, provided that they have at least 10,000 subscribers and create original content that gets at least 100,000 views every time.
Those who meet the criteria will then be tested by creating a 3 to 5-minute video on-campus. They will also need to prove that they can keep up academically by undergoing a computer-based written exam.
Students who officially get accepted can then take up economics, social and political science, law, engineering, and computer courses.
“We think YouTube is a great media to convey positive messages effectively to society. We want those accepted in the university to convey positive messages and influence society for the better,” UPNVJ rector Erna Hernawati told The Jakarta Post.
The UPNVJ currently has special admission programs for athletes and Koran recital specialists as well.
