Where to Eat in Taiwan (Aside from the Night Market)

A food trip in Taiwan can be quite overwhelming. With tons of restaurants and numerous stalls at night markets, it can be a little difficult to choose where to eat. As such, we prepared this quick guide on where to eat when in Taipei.

Full Want

Named after the owner’s father, Full Want is a sandwich restaurant that uses the tepanyaki technique in preparing their products.

They were founded by the second generation of Shiang-Lian tepanyaki from the Ningxia night market. They have many creative recipes, like the tepanyaki toast and hot pressed sandwiches. We especially loved their steak sandwich!

Full Want also offers delicious Milk Tea that you can buy by the cup or by the bottle if you want to take it home. The Black Milk Tea is delicious when paired with any of their sandwiches, especially the spicy ones.

Kao Chi

One of the bigger restaurants in the middle of the city, Kao Chi started in 1949 as a mere a stall on the street. They were known for their Shanghai snacks, which later evolved into more selections while still staying true to traditions.

They are known for their Shanghai Pan-friend bun where the pork buns are fried fresh in iron cooking pots.

Aside from the pork buns, they offer a wide variety of food that is truly authentic. The restaurant is perfect for big groups as they offer their servings family style. You have to try the Pork Belly that is sliced on the table to be placed in a mantou bun.

Jinfeng

With a long line out the street, it is easy to find Jin Feng. It is one of the places you should visit if you are looking for food that is less expensive yet still rich in taste.

They offer Taiwan’s signature Braised Minced Pork Rice. The owner explains that the one they have is quite special as it has a combination of spices that finds the perfect flavor to suit different tastes.

The restaurant has been in business for over 30 years now and is one of United Daily News’ Top 5 Of Must Try Taiwanese Cuisines. You have to try the minced pork and the pork belly with some steamed white rice.

San Ho Yan
