OVP Donates Extraction Kits Worth P5.3 Million for COVID-19 Tests to Various Hospitals

The Office of Vice President (OVP) Leni Robredo recently turned over Php 5.3 million worth of extraction kits to be used in testing for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The kits were sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

“The OVP allotted some P5.3 million for these kits, which may be used in the process of conducting a total of 12,750 tests,” the OVP said in a statement.

The extraction kits may also be used by the following hospitals identified as subnational laboratories to assist in the surveillance of the illness:

  • Lung Center of the Philippines
  • San Lazaro Hospital
  • UP-National Institutes of Health
  • Baguio General Hospital
  • Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu and
  • Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City

In addition to extraction kits, the OVP also headed a donation drive for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers. Said drive was able to raise about Php 20 million and is already partly being used to purchase and distribute PPE.
