PSA: False Reports of Vanessa Bryant’s Suicide Are Spreading On Social Media

Numerous reports of Vanessa Bryant taking her own life following the death of her husband and daughter, Kobe and Gianna, have recently been circulating on social media. All of these have been faked and are being spread by ‘trolls’, according to fact-checking websites.

The fake news surfaced on various websites and videos, with users even creating “memorial” clips for Vanessa. One of the more popular fabricated pieces is a “BBC” news report riddled with typos in the headline itself. The content of the article includes an obviously fake video that combines a Fox News clip with a Today Show clip.

Fact-checking site Snopes quickly debunked the damaging reports. Their report reads: “Rumors that spread in February 2020 about the death of Kobe Bryant’s widow were junk news. This was not a genuine news report. It was a hoax designed to capitalize on the recent deaths of the NBA star and the couple’s teenage daughter, Gianna.”
