Urbandub To Hold Last Concert On May 9

“Is this the beginning of our last dance?”

Urbandub has just confirmed that their break up is no joke! Minutes ago today (April 2) they posted this  promotional poster of their last ever concert. The initial announcement was posted on April 1 leading fans to speculate that the news was just an April fools joke.

This, to UDub  fans’ dismay, trumps the theory that this is all just an elaborate prank.

They got us good, but we’re still hoping this isn’t true!

After 15 years in the industry, Urbandub is disbanding. In a post on their official Facebook page, the band gave the official announcement.

“We are happy to get to this point but sometimes all great things must come to an end. But we wish to end things on a happy note through this anniversary concert. The band may cease to exist but we are hopeful our music will live on through every single Dubista that enjoyed listening and watched us perform. 2015 will be the last year of Urbandub. What an amazing ride. We loved each and every moment we shared with you.”

Urbandub’s manager Carleen Panganiban confirmed the news to Inquirer saying “Their last show as original members (will be) on May 9. They’ll disband next year.” The concert will be held in Metrowalk, Pasig.

Urbandub message

The Cebuano band is composed of Gabby Alipe, John Dinopol, Lalay Lim, and Janjan Mendoza. They have released 6 albums throughout the span of 15 years and unforgettable rock anthems  such as Soul Searching, A First of Summer, and Endless, A Silent Whisper.

I find the news heartbreaking. I remember wanting to watch this unsigned band from Cebu play at Culture Club Alabang and actually watching them for the first time at Sonic Boom’s ‘Attack of the Giant South’ gig. I remember finally finding their albums in record stores and watching their music videos. I remember all those late nights with their music in the background. They were not just a band, they were feelings and experiences in songs. I grew up to their music and I will continue to play their songs even after the band ceases to exist.

I leave you with one of my Urbandub favourites:
