There’s no place like home. The UP Journalism Club (UPJC) celebrated its 60th founding anniversary with this year’s Grand Alumni Homecoming on Jan. 31 at Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine Restaurant, West Triangle, Quezon City.
Alumni and resident members from batch 70’s to 2000’s came to the event that included veteran journalist Marites Vitug who delivered the keynote address.
Vitug is a Broadcast Communication graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP-CMC) and an alumna of UPJC in the 70’s.
Other notable alumni who were in the event were Evelyn Katigbak, CMC college secretary, Tina Arceo-Dumlao, Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Business Features Editor and Alex Maaliw, University of the East professor.
Its diamond year is capped with the theme, “On to the greater narrative,” which showcases the organization’s rich history and the events that led to the forming of its core principles and objectives.
Prof. Danilo Arao, CMC associate dean, also came to promote the college’s 50th founding anniversary.
The organization’s lineup of projects in 2015 includes establishing an alliance of organization in an event named ‘Byline Congress,’ an upcoming literary folio called Journeys and series of campus journalism workshops (CJW) aside from its ongoing activities and campaigns.
UPJC’s flagship project, CJW is catered to elementary, high school and college students to enrich their journalistic skills and ethics. It has insofar taught students from La Union, Baguio, Bataan, CALABARZON, National Capital Region, Negros Occidental, Bacolod and Sulu, among others.
