University of the Philippines Ibalon, the sole regional organization of Bicolano students in UP Diliman, is set to stage Padunungan on January 8 – 10, 2016, at Bicol University, Legazpi City, Albay.
This will be the 31st year that UP Ibalon will sponsor Padunungan which means “battle of the intellects” in the Bicol language.
Several high schools all over the region will be competing in the flagship contest with the theme, “Working for the Future: Filipino Youth and the Advancement of Labor Rights in the Country.”
The competition aims to “shed light to the plight of the millions of Filipino workers, and raise the students’ understanding of the role of the youth in advancing labor rights in the country.”
A total of eight competition titles are at stake: Quiz Bee, Essay Writing Contest in English, Debate, Impromptu Speaking Contest, On-the-Spot T-shirt printing, On-the-spot Poster Making, Poem-making Contest and Cultural Presentation.
Padunungan is part of the organization’s 41 years of continued service to the region and the country. The organization has since then been molding young minds of Bicolano students within and outside the university.
