UP Chemical Society’s Chemsoc Week: A Week-long Celebration of 85 Years of Making Hits and Breaking Records
UP Chemical Society will be having its Chemsoc Week, a week-long celebration of its 85th year of unparalleled legacy and excellence, consisting of different events catered for the students, faculty, and staff of the Institute of Chemistry and the University. UP Chemsoc Week will be happening from August 26 to September 1, 2014. Among these events are the following:
August 26 Exhibit Opening
The exhibit aims to showcase the artistic side of the members by creatively presenting the organization’s achievements for the past 85 years. It shall be displayed at the Institute of Chemistry for the whole duration of Chemsoc Week.
August 27 Chem Idol 2014
Next is the search for the Institute of Chemistry’s singing sensation, the Chem Idol where students shall showcase their vocal prowess and battle for the title of becoming the next Chem Idol and a chance to become the institute’s representative to compete in the College of Science Idol (CS Idol).
August 29 Eat-All-You-Chem!: The Chemsoc Grand Pakain
The grandest food fest is here as you can Eat-All-You-Chem! UP ChemSoc serves free lunch and drinks for 300 people as a way of sharing the blessings the society has received for the past 85 years. This is also a way to give back to the Institute and to studentsfor their overwhelming support for the organization’s activities.
August 29 Brain Freeze
After savoring that free lunch, you might want to eat some ice cream in the biggest, with over 200 participants from last year, and the famous university-wide ice cream eating contest of UP ChemSoc, Brain Freeze. Teams of three compete against one another with only one goal in mind: finish the tub of ice cream in the fastest way possible. Today, the top record is 54 seconds and everyone is still hot to beat this time. Headache has never been this sweet with Brain Freeze!
August 30 UP Chemsoc Alumni Homecoming Dinner
For once every five years, UP ChemSoc holds its Alumni Homecoming Dinner catered for the resident and alumni members of the organization. A night filled with food, fun, games, and memories, UP ChemSoc will take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the 85 glorious years of the society.
September 1 Exergonic: Chemistry Career Talk
UP ChemSoc Week ends with an event that’s in line with the organization’s objective of encouraging intellectual inquiry, the Exergonic: Chemistry Career Talk. This seminar shall showcase the opportunities of being a Chemistry graduate and shall give ideas to students on what field to pursue.
