Universal Studios Japan to reopen June 19 but there’s a catch

Similar here in the Philippines, Japan is also easing its lockdown implementation.

The national government of Japan has lifted its state of emergency, which means that the amusement parks in the country can start preparing to reopen but with a number of added safety precautions in tow.

With this, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka is one of the first theme parks to announce that they will be reopening soon. The amusement park aims to reopen in three phases.

Rough translation:

[Notice of business restart date]
Universal Studios Japan will resume operations on Friday, June 19th.
※ ※ For the time being, only those in the 2 prefectures of Kansai will be eligible.
※ There is also a soft open period for those who are limited to admission

In the first phase of the reopening, all annual pass holders from the Osaka prefecture will be allowed to enter the park during a special pre-opening event between June 8 and 18. However, the pass holder must do an advance registration to avail of this.

The second phase is aimed between June 15 and 18 when the theme park will open to all Osaka residents who bought special advance tickets.

The third and final phase will be on June 19, when USJ will welcome visitors even from beyond Osaka.

It is important to note that even if USJ’s official reopening date is on June 19, the final phase will limit entry to the theme park to Kansai residents only coming from Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga, Nara, and Wakayama prefectures.

Ticket booths located in the park will not operate. In order to enter, you’ll need to be an annual pass holder or must have bought a ticket for a designated date in advance. Advance tickets will be available from June 4 on their website.

Before going, be sure to read the park’s strict safety measures. This includes Osaka’s new prefecture-wide contact-tracing app that uses QR codes.
