Most women have a love affair with shoes; but have you ever heard of a guy turning to shoes – with heels, to boot! – after a heartbreak? Well, that’s exactly what Rem D Koolhaas, co-founder of the Dutch designer footwear brand United Nude, has done. With architectural concepts as a predictive model, United Nude’s avant-garde designs are now taking the Philippines by storm.
After studying architecture in the Netherlands back in 1999, Rem nursed a broken heart by sketching shoes. Before long, he was showing his unique shoe designs to established footwear makers, who all turned him down for not aligning with their signature look. In order to launch his innovative designs, it became clear that he had to start his own brand.

With the help of Galahad Clark, who represents the 7th generation of shoemakers from the Clark shoe clan, his designs soon became a reality, resulting in more and more artistic, unique, and experimental footwear collections.
The Mobius was the first of several groundbreaking designs, using a single strip for the heel, sole, and foot bed.

One of the most eye-catching of all of the United Nude shoe designs is the Wilderness shoe line, which makes use of cloth molded to look like roots and branches:
There is also the Fang model with multiple fangs on the sole, serving as both the heel and edgy accents. The wedge is molded in carbon fiber and fiber glass:

Rem also stresses that each pair of United Nude shoes is a reinterpretation of an architectural object or a reflection of the possibilities offered by movements, colors, and materials.
