Are you a ukulele player? Have you always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele by any chance? Now is the best time to start.

I started teaching myself how to play the ukulele earlier this year and instantly fell in love with how easy ukulele chords are and how much fun I could have ‘personalising’ songs to suit a more beachy vibe. While I already have a medium-sized ukulele that I love to bits, thanks to its guitar-like sound; I never really fell in love with any of the smaller ukuleles I saw in the market. I thought this was sad since ukuleles are generally more well-known for being more portable and smaller in size.

And then I stumbled across Wagas Crafts and their unique ukulele designs, and my pacute heart jumped for joy.

Of course, they also have more traditional designs for those who prefer something more classic and simple:

Regardless of which Wagas design speaks to your heart, though, there are various other reasons why you should choose Wagas Crafts ukuleles over the other ones that you see in today’s market:

For starters, Wagas ukuleles are made from all-solid homegrown Philippine Mahogany. That’s right. They aren’t made from plywood, but from solid wood nurtured by nature. Not only will you be able to proudly say that your uke is Pinoy-made, but you can also proudly say that your uke is made from awesome all-natural material.

Wagas doesn’t use any bending process, either. Traditional makers tend to bend pieces of thing wood for the ukulele’s sideboards, but Wagas is different as they use a traditional bandsaw to do a direct vertical cut onto a 2/14-inch thick solid block of wood to create the shape and design of their unique uke bodies.

One piece of this solid block of wood can produce several big and small sideboards. This is now commonly known as Wagas Method in the uke luthiers community since it is an original Wagas concept.

All of Wagas’ ukes with painting designs are handcrafted and hand painted, as well, so you won’t find another exact replica of yours anywhere in the world.

While Wagas uses traditional machines, the major work is done by their wood artisans. So, while the designs may look similar, none of them are ever completely identical. As Ritchie Wagas put it, “Every uke we produce carries the heart of the maker.”

All of that aside, it goes without saying that Wagas ukuleles make for great souvenirs and gift items, as well – perfect for the holidays. Since Wagas has so many different eye-catching designs available, they have created an opportunity to catch the attention of tourists and educate people about ukuleles as an instrument of peace at the same time.

“I found love with the ukulele,” says Ritchie. “Indeed, it is in music where true freedom lives.” Get a unique Pinoy-made ukulele that you can call your own today: a Filipino uke by Wagas Crafts!
