U Hotels Makati: Work and Play in this New Art Hotel

Staycations usually make you want to rest and sleep all day. The soothing lobby and comfortable rooms usually just lure you into slowing down and relaxing. That’s not the case at U Hotels Makati. Instead, the atmosphere and vibe here will inspire you to get some work done without compromising on comfort and relaxation.

U Hotels Makati had their soft opening last April 17. If you think that they’re just another affordable place to stay in, then you have it all wrong.

U Hotels Makati is the first art hotel in the area. Every room and corridor is given life by beautiful murals passionately made by different artists. What’s more amazing is that each floor of this 8-storey building is designed by a specific artist (Mercedes Olondriz, Kris Abrigo, Avin Del Rosario, Anina Rubio, Archie Oclos, Exldmanila, Trip63, or Chillersssss), giving it diversity and a personalized touch that will make your stay feel like a different art-venture or art-cation every time.

The owners of U Hotels want to give exposure to these talented people and promote the vibrant scene that Poblacion is known for. At the same time, they want to invoke inspiration and creativity to boost their guests’ productivity. This makes it an excellent choice for business travelers (but U Hotels Makati caters to practically everyone nonetheless).

Being tropical-industrial inspired, the interior of U Hotels Makati has the ideal balance of a casual and formal setting, making it the perfect place to set a meeting or to simply get some work done. Their lobby-lounge makes that easy because of many factors. The vibe itself—from the lighting to the music—is relaxing enough to keep you focused; the tables have ample spaces away from each other to let you discuss your topics in peace; there are sockets everywhere and a fast Internet connection for you to utilize without disrupting your momentum; and they offer a 24/7 snack bar to energize their guests.

The snack bar has local snacks and cookies for you to munch on while working. They also have a good set of drinks (infused water, tea, and coffee) to keep you awake so you can finish what you have to do. Plus, the coffee beans are locally-sourced from Benguet. All of this is unlimited for checked-in guests—talk about value for money!

After working, U Hotels Makati will reward you for a “job well done” by giving you quality sleep and satisfying meals because you deserve it.

U Hotels Makati has 62 rooms in total. There are five types of room for you to choose from, but each one includes a 5-star quality mattress with premium linen, an LED TV, a mini refrigerator, a work desk and a chair, an electric kettle, towels and toiletries, a spacious bathroom, and adorable hotel slippers!

If you wish to go out to explore Poblacion, U Hotels Makati has a superb location. It’s near many restaurants and bars like El Chupacabra, Filling Station, Polilya, etc.– near enough to walk, but also far enough from the noise to give you a deep and uninterrupted slumber. If you’re into history, the St. Peter Church is near U Hotels, as well.

Checking in at U Hotels Makati includes a hearty breakfast to cap it all off. We tried their breakfast tapa and bacon and waffles and I assure you that that’s enough to start your day right.

For weekend guests, a breakfast buffet is served. They have their specialty soup for the day, eggs, bacon, tapa, and garlic rice for a filling morning.

At other times of the day, you can order from their a la carte menu. The cuisine is still the same, but there are more choices available.

 IMG 0413

Their Creamy Carbonara (Php320) is honestly at par with other Italian restaurants. Its creamy white sauce complements the saltiness of the bacon and its crispiness gives a nice texture to the al dente pasta.

However, my favorite is the Just Noodles (Php195). It’s literally just noodles, but the secret lies within the flavors of the other ingredients mixed in it. It has spices, herbs, and nuts that are nicely combined with olive oil. This Fookien Style Stir Fried Noodles is elevated when the yolk of the sunny side up egg envelops the noodles—pure bliss, I tell you!

Fan of burgers and sandwiches? Their U Clubhouse Sandwich (Php350.) is one of their bestsellers for many reasons: it’s good for sharing and the combination of ingredients will please your palate and fill you up  in no time.

The Angus Beef Burger (Php420), on the other hand, is for those who are looking for some juicy meat to bite into. Both are served with a side of seasoned fries.

Their Ginata (Php130) is something you should not miss. This gata ice cream made from pure coconut milk is yours to enjoy. It has bits and pieces of sweet potato, taro, tapioca, and a whole lot of cheese. If you’re looking for a true Filipino dessert, U Hotels Makati is the only place that serves this in the area.

Their Buko Drop (Php40) is a local treat you could enjoy under the sun. U Hotels Makati proudly promotes local goods to show off the wonders of our cuisine, especially since there are a lot of foreign travelers in Poblacion! Oh, I forgot to mention that both the Ginata and Buko Drop are lactose-free!

Now you know exactly where to book your next staycation. Be one of the first to experience the fusion of productivity and leisure in a comfortable setting and embrace the art culture that U Hotels Makati and Poblacion have to offer.
