Troye Sivan in Manila was More than a Dream Come True

This has been a long time coming! Fans have been waiting for this moment since Troye Sivan first released his debut single “Happy Little Pill” back in August 2014. We got a super quick glimpse of him after his little stint last year when he dropped by Manila unannounced for a day (which was later revealed to be for an SM Youth photoshoot). And finally, the day came for Troye Sivan’s first Philippine concert. Held on May 1, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena, the concert was a night full of dancing, a rollercoaster of emotions, and just over-the-top happy big queer energy.

I’ve been a fan of Troye since his YouTuber days – before he transitioned into the worldwide popstar we all know of, and I never thought this night would finally come. Troye has been one of my top Spotify artists for years and seeing him perform was a so surreal, it felt more than a dream come true.

A friend of mine got a once-in-a-lifetime experience meeting Troye before his show. She narrated her experience in a Twitter thread. Apparently, during the meet and greet, Maj showed everyone a tweet he posted back in 2015.

Like a fangirl’s dream, Troye later on referenced this encounter during his concert!

Troye opened the night with Seventeen appearing at the center of the VIP section on a small platform. We instantly went wild as we were given a very close and intimate performance to begin with.

This boy never stopped dancing! Troye kept the high energy throughout the entire night as he mentioned it was his guitarist Alex’s birthday. He also shared that his longest bandmate and keyboardist, Karina, is half-Filipino.

One of my favorite moments of the night was when he sang Heaven and the crowd was illuminated with rainbow-colored lights. That was such a beautiful sight. No matter how different we all were from one another, we were all as one in that moment, celebrating love that knows no boundaries.

After eight songs of jumping and dancing around, Troye brought out a couch and turned things down a bit with Postcards, Good Side, and What a Heavenly Way to Die. I had to pretend these songs didn’t bring me to tears.

Troye brought the crowd back to their feet with 1999 and Dance to This. Having the privilege to follow his career from the beginning, it was so amazing to see how much he has grown as a performer. These two songs showcased how confident he has become over the years, especially in terms of his dancing.
Troye promised to be back really soon, even saying that the woman who books his shows, Emma, is in the crowd. He then told Emma that he would very much like to come back ASAP.
The show ended with Troye’s energy still lingering amongst the crowd. Everyone was on a concert high. It was truly a magical celebration of love.  ? ? ?
