Pinoy Blogger Tricia Gosingtian Was Actually A Style Inspiration For TATBILB’s Lara Jean

Just a friendly reminder in case you’ve forgotten: Jenny Han, author of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, had local blogger Tricia Gosingtian as a style peg. With the sequel’s premiere right around the corner, it seemed apt to look back on one of our very own as inspiration for Lara Jean herself.

This tidbit was revealed by Jenny Han on Twitter way back in 2018, right after the first movie was released on Netflix. Although the Tweet has now been deleted (for unknown reasons), screenshots of the author’s statements continue to exist as proof.

She gave the backstory behind Lara Jean’s character design, saying:  “I wanted them to understand that even though To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a contemporary realistic story and not Harry Potter or Hunger Games, her style is crucial to understanding the character.”

“It might not be what a teenaged guy would find sexy, but it’s what she feels pretty in, and for an introverted girl, it’s a way for her to express herself. Just like her bedroom.”

In a follow-up tweet she added: “It’s ‘60s meets ‘90s meets Asian streetwear. She is a girl that looks at Korean fashion blogs, goes to vintage shops, scours the internet for the perfect thing.” Han then attached a few photos which she used as a direct inspiration for Lara Jean’s style.

Of course, Tricia was nothing less than flattered by the mention. She thanked the author on her official Twitter account and gushed over the events on her Instagram story:
