The Philippines is one of the most sought after holiday destinations in the world. It has held onto its crown as one of the best destinations due to a wonderful mix of beautiful tropical landscapes, eye-catching architecture, stunning beaches, tasty cuisine and friendly people.

It is an archipelago of over 7,000 tropical islands and you can still find parts of it that are relatively unexplored. Its natural beauty comprises some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the world and some of the most spectacular landscapes you are ever likely to see.

When to go Travel Philippines

As a tropical location, the Philippines are always hot and the temperature rarely drops below 25 degrees centigrade. Humidity is high but if you are at altitude it will be more manageable. The terrain in the Philippines means that much of your exploring can be done at altitude. The best time of year to visit is between November and May, but avoid June to October, which is the typhoon season.

Cycling Holidays

The Philippines is a great destination to combine activity holidays with sightseeing. Cycling holidays are a popular way to do this and many travel companies offer cycling in the region. If you want to try out a cycling experience in the Philippines, the most recommended island is Luzon. It is the largest and combines majestic mountain scenery with volcanoes, crystal clear lakes and those sought after white sandy beaches.

A popular cycling route in Luzon starts off in the capital city, Manila, then leads to Carmines Sur and then Bicol. Once you reach Bicol you can enjoy the experience of a lifetime, swimming with sharks off the coast of Donsol. Established trails offer a variety of terrain from easy days to more challenging off road trails, cycling up to the highland areas of Tagaytay and descending to Taal Lake.

Other sights

The Philippines is a wonderful mix of cultures and traditions and there is something for everyone. Manila is a lively bustling city full of fun nightlife and great food. Alternatively, you could escape from city life and soak up the tranquil atmosphere found in the Banaue rice terraces, sometimes known as the eighth wonder of the world and even take a village trek through the rice paddies. You can stay overnight in a traditional Ifugao village where people still farm the same way they did 2,000 years ago. Mount Pinatubo is an active strato volcano, but it is also a popular trek on Luzon. You can trek to the crater and spend the night at the crater’s lake.

In Sagada you can take in the hanging coffins of Echo Valley, an eerie place where people used to ‘bury’ their ancestors. You can see coffins dangling from the limestone cliffs. Any time spent in the Philippines must also incorporate some relaxation on the coast. A good spot is Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro. It is truly a tropical paradise with pristine beaches and perfect blue sea to enjoy swimming and other water sports. If you are here at the right time of year you may also come across one of the annual festivals popular with Filipinos, such as the Moriones Festival, the Flowers of May and the Grand Marian Procession.
