Travel Blogger Hates Filipino Food: “I Would Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Filipino Street Food Again!”

“I Would Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Filipino Street Food Again!” was the title of their post. This came from a blog called eTramping.com, which supposedly has a theme of “Traveling like tramps around the world, for less than $25 a day.”

It’s a cool concept. I’m just a bit sad about the horrible experience they had with Filipino food, which I feel is really their own fault.

In their blog article, they have certain criticism that baffle me, like how they supposedly had bananas that were already black…. Most people would take that as a sign that the fruit is rotten and would not eat that.

Also, the screenshot below seems to be that of a hotdog from 7-Eleven. But the caption states that: “We asked for “longganisa” which is Filipino famous sausage and this is what we were served – American style hot dog”

I really feel that this is such an unfair statement. This would be the equivalent of me going to Philadelphia to try their famous Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich, but then going to a 7-Eleven there and being handed a hotdog and then complaining about it. Here’s their photo and screenshot below.

Other complaints they had were about how they could not find any traditional Filipino food.

“The biggest disappointment was not trying traditional Filipino dishes. Why? We simply could not find them! We visited enormous amount of local food stands and restaurants asking for balut, adobo, asado, daing and more and we we have heard was “Not here. We have some fish and fried pork only.”, “Do you want to try noodles instead?”, “We have some boiled eggs”. So, so disappointing!”

I can understand your disappointment as traditional Filipino dishes are truly amazing, but at the same time, I feel like this is the equivalent of me going into Burger King and asking for a Big Mac. Each place has their specialties and their own selections of food. Perhaps better online research before heading out would have saved you a lot of time, heart-ache and tummy aches.

Moreover, they go on to blog about many things which I believe were just misguided food picks. I really wish they had gotten a better tour guide to show them how they could have AMAZING food for way under $25 a day!

Dear eTrampinigs, next time you come back, please send us an email so we can show you around. =)
