Last month, Jasmine Curtis-Smith called out rapper Erich Boton, also known as Young Vito, for his song ‘Awit’. The song is about a woman he met and danced with at a bar, who he discovered was transgender.
“Anong problema mo sa mga magagandang may lawit? Ikaw ata may mali,” she said in a public tweet. “Mag 2020 na soon, tigilan na yang pagkakitid ng utak pls.”
Soon thereafter, Erich issued a public apology, saying “My recent video drew a lot of attention recently for both the right and wrong reasons. I want to apologize to anyone I have offended with my lyrics for the video. At the time, it seemed like a small thing to mention but I have recently found out how much my words can personally affect other people. For this, I am sorry.” He also took down the video on Twitter afterwards.
Still, despite the public outrage, the song was released on Thursday under Viva Records. It has, however, been removed from both Spotify and YouTube now.
